Tenants Together, California’s statewide organization for renters’ rights, seeks a Development Manager in our San Francisco office. This is a full-time position based in San Francisco.

Formed in 2008, Tenants Together is California’s only statewide renters' rights organization, working to improve the lives of California’s tenants through education, organizing and advocacy. The Position

The Development Manager (DM) is a full time position at Tenants Together reporting to the Executive Director. The DM will coordinate grant writing and fundraising. Please note that we are a small nonprofit with no development staff currently.

Job Responsibilities


o Research available grants

o Manage grants calendar

o Attend information sessions

o Set up foundation meetings for ED

o Draft LOIs and other approaches to Foundations

o Work with ED to complete grant applications and grow foundation support

o Produce written progress reports on a timely basis

  Individual Donors

o Write fundraising materials including program overviews, monthly newsletter, annual update

o Grow individual donor base through mail, email, and online giving campaigns

o Provide timely acknowledgment of gifts

o Assist ED identify and approach potential major donors & event sponsors


o Manage donor database in Salesforce

o Update some content on website

o Generate monthly and quarterly reports on key metrics and analyze results to determine effectiveness of various strategies

o Participate in development of TT budget, with an emphasis on fundraising revenues and budget for the development department

o Participate in staff meetings and work closely with program & admin staff

o Supervise development volunteers/interns


Minimum 2 years of development experience, including grant writing and grassroots fundraising

Relationships with potential funders to hit the ground running

Highly organized with excellent attention to detail

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated passion for and commitment to social and economic justice; tenant rights and/or housing justice knowledge preferred.

Tech savvy and computer proficient, including Word, Excel, social media, and Salesforce

Team player who takes initiative; must be able to work independently and collaboratively

This is a full time position to start as soon as possible. Medical, dental, paid vacation. Salary DOE.
