When a recent for-profit investment corporation (Inspire Communities) began the purchasing process of its second mobile home park in Humboldt County, tenant's sat up and took notice. Their first purchase has already suffered two rent increases in less than a year, the second park will have at least a 10% increase within 90 days of closing escrow. Mobile home park tenants throughout the county are banding together to put forward a park rent stabilization initiative after being shot down by a County Supervisor's Advisory Committee in McKinleyville in January. The coalition seeks to raise funds to pay legal costs for authoring the initiative and filing fees, and is consulting with atty Will Constantine out of Santa Cruz to make sure the initiative meets requirements.
