Senator Leno Introduces Bill to Preserve 60-Day Eviction Notice

Currently,
most tenants are entitled to 60-day notice of eviction in California,
unless the eviction is for some type of alleged tenant fault like
nonpayment of rent, nuisance or breach of contract. The 60-day
requirement sunsets as of January 1, 2010.  After that, the law will
revert to a mere 30-day notice requirement.  SB 290 would remove the
sunset provision, making the 60-day notice requirement permanent.

Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) introduced SB 290 to preserve the 60-day notice requirement.  Assemblymember Alberto Torrico (D-Fremont) is the principal co-author of the bill. SB 290 would extend the 60-day notice beyond January 1, 2010.
