Recently our county has been invaded by a for-profit housing corporation known as Inspire Communities. It is trying to buy up mobile home parks, then raise the rents unfairly. We are trying to get our representatives to enact a rent stabilization ordinance but are meeting with much resistance-- ours is a strong property-owners rights county--and now are faced with the daunting task of mounting the initiative process. We need help! William Constantine (atty- Santa Cruz0) has said he will write a "universal" ordinance that can be adapted by any community, but will need appx $5,000. to do so. We have asked GSMOL for help, but have met with silence. We have made contact with Lake County, that is trying to do the same thing, and they have said they would do their best to chip in, but we believe that this is an important element to help municipalities be able to get government to preserve this important source of affordable housing. Our rally cry is "Save Our Seniors" (the same as Lake County) but really, we want to save all mobile home parks in our county. But parks are currently suffering unfair rent increases and we need help! Please contact us ASAP! Thanks. Also let others know that we exist...
