Governor Terminates Tax Rebate for Low-Income Senior and Disabled Renters

The Governor's single biggest line-item veto this year was the elimination of all funding for California's tax rebate program for low-income elderly or disabled renters. Under the program, senior renters with annual incomes of less than $44, 096 were eligible to receive tax rebates of up to $347.50. Low-income disabled renters were also eligible to receive the same rebates regardless of age.

Last year, 467,000 senior and disabled renters received the rebate, with an average of $316 for each claimant. This year, with no prior notice, the Governor has taken all of this money from senior and disabled renters who need it the most.
