Foreclosure

My landlord is in foreclosure. Do I have to leave my home right away? Do I have to pay rent?

The following webpage and resources have been developed by staff with years of experience in tenants’ rights, but they DO NOT substitute for legal advice.

About Foreclosures

Since January 1st, 2013 under AB 2610 tenants in California are entitled to a minimum of 90 days notice before eviction. Leases must also be honored by new owners, with some exceptions.

City-level Just Cause for Eviction and Rent Control Ordinances

Tenants in cities with a ‘Just Cause for Eviction’ ordinance may be entitled to additional protections.  For tenants covered by a “just cause for eviction” law, foreclosure alone is not a basis for eviction.
